At 9am I will collect your payment (cash, please: 25.50) and will mark
you on my list. We will then line up for the nice folk to bracelet,
and I will once more mark your name off, making sure that only those
who have paid get a bracelet. Once you have your bracelet, you may do
as you please, cuz that is the point where my organizational
involvement ends. Most of us break up into smaller groups and chances
are good you won't see any of us again until either lunch or the bbq
in the evening. This is a large place and with the heat we've been
having, it will be packed.
Swimsuits: While recommended, not as necessary as you think. Now get
your mind out of the gutter, I'm talking street clothes. You will see
plenty of folk wearing t-shirts and more than a few even wearing
shorts. The t-shirt is definitely a good idea if you burn easily.
Otherwise, any sort of swim suit is fine, just keep in mind what may
happen to it if you go down some of the steeper slides...
Full body suits: A very few folk wear these. If you need one and don't
own one, the park rents them. I've been told they leave one feeling
fairly naked, but you won't burn. Strongly recommended for the palest
folk who burn at the mere mention of sunlight.
Sunblock: Strongly recommended. Each person or group is responsible
for bringing their own. At the end of the day, we will laugh at any
and all who have turned into lobsters. You have been warned.
Hats and sunglasses: A few of us will be wearing one or both of these.
I generally wear a floppy canvas hat that straps on, and may or may
not wear clip on sunglasses.
Glasses: Those of us who need prescription glasses just to see will be
wearing them with lanyards that attach to the stems and tie behind the
head.
Footwear: Also strongly recommended. The park is paved, but by the end
of the day the hot pavement can actually burn your feet. Most folk
wear those rubber soled sandals that strap on firmly, but you will
also see everything from water socks to flip flops. Some rides don't
allow any foot gear, but there are tubes at the start of the line to
store them in.
Lunch: You are responsible for you own lunch. Many of us will be
gathering at the picnic tables in the parking lot and will be eating
lunches we brought in coolers. Others will bring their own money and
will eat at one of the many eateries dotting the park, or may even go
up or down the strip to eat someplace else altogether.
The park has a variety of shops where they sell everything from
swimsuits to towels to t-shirts. They also sell glasses lanyards and
those little plastic neck-safes, as well as basics such as sunblock.
However, I recommend folk purchasing those things in advance, as the
park prices will be higher than what you might pay at home.
