In an effort to prevent waste and keep diseases from spreading throughout landfills across the country, Quest Recycling Services, LLC has teamed up with the Super Walmart and Sam's Club stores in all of the different states.? Together they have?developed the "Feed the Animals Across America" program that will allow facilities who care for animals to get all of the sell by date meats and produce.? This will not only prevent tremendous amounts of food from being wasted, but it will save facilities literally?thousands of dollars per month in food expenses.? There is a only a minimal monthly fee that covers a $2 million liability insurance policy that is necessary for the operation of the program.? In this economic environment this is one of the most positive things we have seen and Wildlife Educators International fully supports this program.??We feel that one of the greatest services our foundation can provide to the animals is making this connection for those who care for them.? The program is scheduled to begin November 1st, 2009.? For more information open the link below. AB 241 Sent to the Governor Take?Action! Urge Schwarzenegger to veto! ? September 8, 2009 Today, the California Assembly concurred on the Senate amendments to AB 241 on a vote of 46 ayes to 16 noes. The governor's veto pen is the only thing now that could prevent this HSUS backed legislation from becoming law in all three western seaboard states. This bill opens the door to a new form of discrimination against dog and cat breeders, who will be profiled based on numbers alone. ? Click here to read the final version of AB 241, as passed by the legislature. ? Governor Schwarzenegger needs to hear immediately from responsible dog and cat owners urging his veto. ? We believe the best way to improve conditions for breeding cats and dogs is to ensure that facilities are properly regulated. Unfortunately this bill could actually worsen conditions for animals by pushing substandard operations underground where they will receive no oversight while eliminating experienced breeders, some of whom have been licensed in the state of California for decades. ? Please use the talking points below to draft a thoughtful letter to the Governor, highlighting the unintended consequences of this legislation. He needs to feel confident that by vetoing AB 241 he will send th e message that the State of California does not have to hurt law-abiding people in order to shut down illegal, inhumane breeding facilities. He should ask the Legislature instead to send him a bill in the future that improves conditions for breeding dogs and cats without unfairly discriminating against certain businesses based on size alone. AB 241 is clearly not that bill. If you can not see the talking points below yet, please CLICK HERE TO TAKE ACTION on behalf of California pets and pet owners! Fish and Game PDFs Hi All, Fish and Game in Calif are proposing to implement regulations on hybrid cats in Calif. There is going to be a hearing on October 1st, 2009. They want to implement these new regulations on November 5th, 2009. That is only 6 weeks away. This is very bad as Calif tends to be a state that others look to. Other surrounding states may follow suit. We need to fight this and fight hard as we only have a very very short time to do so. Here is the contact person at F & G. Rob Allen 916-651-9953 Enforcement Branch at Fish and Game I urge anyone that can, call and leave a message opposing this new regulation on hybrids. I have attached all the PDF files from their website on this new proposed regulation. I am thinking we should bring some lower generation Savannahs to the hearing as long as they are very well mannered of course. Here is all they are giving us at the moment. III. Description of Regulatory Action: (a) Statement of Specific Purpose of Regulation Change and Factual Basis for Determining that Regulation Change is Reasonably Necessary: The Fish and Game Code and its implementing regulations do not contain a general section regulating hybrid plants and animals. A fish, mammal, or plant that is a hybrid of two or more species is not a specific species and therefore is not addressed within most regulations and code sections referring to bag limits, seasons, take, possession limits and mere possession. Examples are a hybrid between bass species (i.e. largemouth and spotted bass), hybrids of exotic cats, and hybrid canines such as coy-dogs. Some individuals have attempted to exploit this loophole in the law, by claiming that their animals are hybrids, and therefore no regulation applies to their take or possession. Although some hybrids occur naturally, further hybridizations of species are expected as scientific methods improve. Examples of potential problem areas include abalone, fin fish, falconry, waterfowl, aquaculture, and restricted species. The proposal would not only help regulate true hybrids but would help in preventing violators from using a “hybrid defense” by causing the Department to be forced to prove a specific animal is indeed a specific species and therefore regulated. The proposal would give wardens latitude in enforcing laws without having to contend with a biological grey area as it relates to proof of species. An agency which enforces plant and animal laws is placed at a disadvantage if it lacks regulations to reasonably address hybrid issues. Hi, We (Coyote Point Museum) are looking for a bobcat to place on exhibit at our facility. Coyote Point Museum is non-profit that specializes in Environmental Education. About 2 weeks ago we had to euthanize our 20 year old bobcat because of renal failure. I have been looking around to see if there are any young cats that need placement. Although I would love to have a kitten here I am happy to take in a young adult that needs a home. We are an AZA accredited facility and we incorporate allot of training and enrichment into our animal care program. Prospective bobcats do not have to be handleable as we use both hands on and hands off training to techniques to train the animals to workable in their environments here including: shifting, coming on command, presenting body parts for veterinary inspection and in some cases voluntary injections for vaccines and medications. I read about Billy Bob on your web site, but I feel that he is much older then we would like to take at this time. If you have or know of any bobcats that need placement please let me know. I am still searching locally, but I have found one at a zoo in PA that needs a home. So sooner would be better if you know of one that might need placement. Forwarding... http://www.lincolncountyjournal.com/news/view_sections.asp?idcategory=47 &idarticle=3416 The board also passed unanimously Ordinance No. 1117 which regulates the ownership and possession of exotic animals. This is designed for the public's safety and health risks that exotic animals post to the community. This was spurred on by the recent escape of an alligator and snakes from the same location in a subdivision. It spells out which animals are prohibited. Any city resident having current ownership or possession of any exotic animal shall within 60 calendar days to contact the city and commence the permit/registration process. The payment of the nonrefundable permit fee of $1,000 per exotic animal shall constitute the beginning of the permit/registration process. Owners of pre-existing exotic animals must show proof of insurance coverage with a minimum $1,000,000. A copy of the ordinance is available for review at Troy City Hall. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
