If you are interested in Gorillas please read about Joe and Oliver at http://www.gorilla-haven.org?? It sounds like Oliver is on his way very soon to the Columbus Zoo! I had the honor of meeting Joe while volunteering for Gorilla Haven and it was?amazing, awe inspiring and a little intimidating, to meet this beautiful creature. Take a look at their stories.

Abandoned African Serval
Help rescue her and provide for her lifetime care!
An African Serval was found limping along in the Arizona desert. She was
probably a pet or perhaps used in the hybrid breeding scheme that has become
all the rage where Servals are bred to domestic house cats to produce
Savannah Cat hybrids. The domestic cats are often killed in the process. The
kittens sell for thousands of dollars, but when they mature they all spray
and bite and make awful pets. The hybrids are usually discarded by the time
they are two or three years old.
This Serval was obviously abandoned and is at the Tucson Wildlife Center, a
non-profit sanctuary dedicated to native wildlife. Lisa Bates-Lininger the
founding president of the Tucson Wildlife Center said, "She was dehydrated
and tired and just ready to give up. She may have died last night, but
luckily we got her in. We got her emergency treatment, fluids for shock, and
she's also missing a rear leg."
Flying the Serval from Arizona to Big Cat Rescue in Tampa, FL will cost
$520.00 plus the cost of her carrier. But that is just the beginning...
Servals can live into their late teens and proper care is thousands of
dollars each year. Her new 1,200 square foot Cat-a-tat will have to be
specially modified to accomodate her three legged hopping. Until she arrives
we won't know what other medical conditions she may be facing.
Please help this Serval make it to her new, permanent home by donating
today. We make it easy here: http://www.bigcatrescue.org/donate.htm

Reminder about a Serval lost in southern California about 5 years ago (can't remember exactly) along the 15 Freeway between Temecula and Escondido at Gopher Canyon Road.? A woman was in route to Jan in Tarzana to give up the cat to Jan, but stopped along the way to clean the cage and the cat escaped....not sure the cat was ever found.

She intensely hates big hybrids, too. She has a liger named Freckles,
who needs to be removed from her talons. Freckles deserves better than
to be around that hateful woman.

Animal Planet is having a hero of the year award. Big Cat Rescues, Scott
Lope, is one of the people running. We certainly do NOT wanting BCR to get
more recognition to enhance their no exotic or hybrid agenda.

Please go and vote for someone OTHER than Scott. I voted for the 94 y/o

There are no pending posts as of now, and I didn't see one from you.
ll that you should need to do is 'reply' to the post you wanted to

eceiving the list in digest mode, so you need to pare down what you
re replying to, rather than include the whole digest, and you need
o change the subject line. Regardless, I haven't seen anything

You will know, because you will see your own post either as the

If it's easier, you can just send an email to

BCFC has agreed to assist the Zoo at Northwest Florida in the placement
of the following felines: Bobcat male, neutered, 6 years old; Servals,
2.1, the male is fixed while the female is unaltered, age 7 years old;
Cougars, 2.0, 5 or 6 years old, unaltered, weight is about 150 lbs. Also
3 raccoons. Please contact me at bearcreekcattery@juno.com or by phone
at 850 722-9927 if you can accommodate. These animals will need to be
picked up at the zoo in Gulf Breeze, Florida. They indicate some sense
of urgency as the zoo is closed and has ceased to operate.

That is very sad to hear that this zoo closed. It was a wonderful place
to visit. It was very up close and personal. They had a beautiful otter
exhibit and an amazing platform to visit with their giraffes. I visited
their caracal several times before getting my little boy. Also, saw a
wonderful T.V. special on the zoo after a hurricane about rescue efforts. They
were very dedicated to the safety of their animals. I wish I were in a
position to help them now.

We are making some progress this morning with the placement of the
felines (and raccoons) that remain at the Zoo at Northwest Florida, Gulf
Breeze, Florida which is near Pensacola. 2.0 Cougars, age 5 and 6,
remain available. One is said to be "interactive." Please circulate this

This isn't the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo is it? They are the ones that had the tv special on after the hurricane. I think there is some confusion?

The zoo that was the subject of the "Little Zoo That Could" is the
Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo, not this one in Florida...
AGCZ appears to be in healthy operation (see website: http://www.alabamagulfcoastzoo.org/

Juneau, our grieving lynx kitten, just needs another kitten to bond
with. I'll consider adding a female bobcat kitten to our family. We have
a lot of experience with bobs, as well as lynxes.
