Hi,
I would like to get info on caracals: enrichment, training, their development as they get older. I currently have a male african caracal that couldn't be sweeter or have better manners but I am told that they change at about 1 1/2 yrs old and even entering their cage can be dangerous. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. I have bobcats, servals, an ocelot and a sib. lynx- other than the ocelot, I can safely go in any cage, scratch, groom and hand feed them. The ocelot is an ocelot, after 60 secs in her cage, you become a toy to chew, we can take her out on a leash and to programs, has to be kept busy to prevent biting.
Thanks Loretta

Subject: [FEL-L] jungle cat DNA
Hi,
Does anyone out there know of a friendly jungle cat? There is a researcher Bill Murphy who is looking for DNA from a jungle cat -- a friendly jungle cat who's owner could provide a cheek swab from their mouth (involves rolling a qtip type brush on the cats gum or inner cheek) or a blood sample (for example if you are planning for your jungle cat to have anesthesia for a dental cleaning or other procedure a blood sample could be drawn for Dr. Murphy's study while the cat is asleep).
Bill Murphy is a cat geneticist at Texas A&M, has been researching relatedness/family tree of the wild cats as welll as hybrid cat fertility. Here is a link to more info about his research: http://gene.tamu.edu/faculty_pages/faculty_MurphyW.php
If you think you might have a cat that could help out please contact me at kfilseth at rockbridge.net
Thanks,
Kristin
