The night the polar bear Ulu tried to "escape" was the night of the day of
the re-opening of the zoo. It had started rain hard at noon that day, and
probably the zoo was short-handed as it has been for the pasted year or so. Had
they brought the polar bear inside at 5 pm (night fall) perhaps it wouldn't
have tried to pole-vault out of it's enclosure, thinking no one was there to let
it inside it's sleeping chamber for the night....
There is a double "cage" for the new leopards. The first cage is steel
cyclone fencing I believe. The only way Gurka could've escaped is if that fencing
was broken or cut.
I am a zoo member and also a zoo-parent of Kimani and Carl, twin lion cub
babies born 2-7-03. They are nearly 5 years old, and still adorable.
**************Start the year off right. Easy ways to stay in shape.
