To all friends of the great cats,
I apologize first for the multiple postings, but I wanted this to
go to as many eyeballs as possible.
I was asked by a Walter Rabey, a concerned citizen of British
Columbia, to assist him in fighting the proposed restrictions or ban on
the ownership of big cats in British Columbia, Canada. This all stems
from an incident on May 11th of this year when a tiger killed a woman at
the Siberianmagic big cat facility in Bridge Lake, BC.
If you will recall, what apparently happened was a playful tiger
managed to get a paw on the woman's foot under the fence and pull her
in. She was bitten by the cat, but was then able to be removed by
bystanders. Despite the wound being in an extremity, the bleeding could
not be stopped. I am assuming here that no one on the scene knew basic
first aid, as this kind of bleeding should have been easily stopped.
What followed was the BC SPCA went ballistic, calling left and right for
bans. The authorities seized the tiger, and killed it to examine it.
Nothing abnormal (of course!) was found.
In any case, Mr. Rabey has prepared materials that he has submitted
to the Government of British Columbia, and it would appear that they are
giving his presentation some attention. To support his efforts, he is
asking anyone interested to email the Premier of British Columbia with
their concerns about the needlessness of this proposed new law.
The email address of the premier is premier at gov.bc.ca
You can read the letter I wrote (please don't copy it! Use your own
words!) that you can use as a springboard for your own letters.

Please consider helping. It just takes one thoughtful post!

For the lions (and once in a while, tigers!),
