On June 1, the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden launched its wildest
summer event yet. As part of Summer Safari, the Cincinnati Zoo opened
Cheetah Encounter - an amazing new exhibit where Zoo visitors, for the
first time, will witness cheetahs racing at top speeds.
Guests will also be amazed at this summer's world-renowned Great
American Wings of Wonder Bird Show as birds from around the world soar
just overhead.
Also NEW this year, Zookeepers will bring you closer to the action
during daily feedings and encounters with rhinos, polar bears,
elephants and so many more.
The NEW Cheetah Encounter features several of the Zoo's fastest
felines from the internationally-known Cat Ambassador Program
including the brother coalition, "Bravo" and "Chance," the elder
statesman, "Moya" and one of the fastest cheetahs in the world,
"Sarah."
"Zoo visitors will see the beauty of freedom each cheetah carries,"
said Cathryn Hilker, Founder of the Cincinnati Zoo's Cat Ambassador
Program. "They run because they are born to run. Their hearts, their
lungs, their entire body structure tell them, enables them, to Run.
Young cheetahs play and run to near exhaustion if given the chance.
Adult cheetahs run because their lives depend on the food they pursue
with their blinding speed."
The world-renowned Great American Wings of Wonder Bird Show features
twenty-four different species of birds, mammals, and reptiles. They
perform a variety of behaviors from flying, calling, mimicking,
climbing, and outsmarting their trainers. Some of the show animals
include an emu, black-footed penguin, hyacinth macaw, American
alligator, Abyssinian ground hornbill, bald eagle, barn owl, and
Stellar's sea eagle. There will be two shows at 1 & 3 p.m. Wednesday -
Sunday from June 1 - September 3.
Also NEW this year guests will have the opportunity to Meet -A-
Zookeeper and get closer-to-the-action as the keepers share
fascinating behind-the-scenes information about the animals.
Everything from polar bears and Sumatran rhinos to Asian elephants and
Mexican wolves will be featured several times daily throughout the
park.
