The State of Oregon Cougar Management Plan requires that the facility receiving the anima (within only 48 hours) be AZA accredited.... which is a whole different ball of snot that I completely disagree with as well, since the AZA seems to have some rather shortsighted ideas as far as Species Survival Plans.... but that's just my opinion. Personal belief is that the animal should be able to go to any USDA or state licensed facility in any state. That should be reasonable standard to my mind, cuz if the state or federal government considers your facility adequate enough for caring for animals of that nature what should one more matter if space is available? Just my ideas.

This is part of a question I was about to pose. First who makes the decision, in for example the cub that was euthanized, whether or not it can be adopted or will be some kind of "belonging" to the government. Also in the Statement above who was the Center not accredited by? TAOS? I hope not, since TAOS is not governmentally sanctioned or created. They got together and decided their accreditation rules approved only by themselves. What kind of credibility does that kind of process give any group? Worse, if it was TAOS they wanted them to be accredited by, this implies the government is now giving support to self created groups with self created accreditation. I feel very strongly that any accreditation (I belong to FCF for example) should only be a statement that I meet their standards, not necessarily that their standards are the best for everyone else. Does anyone follow me here, I'm very tired and may not be clear. Your opinions please and if anyone does know
the process for abandoned wild babies which the cub sounded like, please let me know. I could have taken him with a moment's notice.
