I live in the bay area. I'm up in Santa Rosa. I was saddened to hear of this
accident. Of course on the news here, they also had to show the boy that
the tiger cub grabbed by the head last year. Got to love that media
sensationalism. NOT.

I was born and raised in the Bay Area and used to go to the SF zoo all the
time. My favorite part was to watch the big cats being fed, although they
had many cats more back then. The keeper would walk along the 4-foot-wide
aisle, pushing a wheel barrow full of meat; with a metal rod that looked
like a fireplace poker, he would spear a huge chunk of meat and place it in
the cage through the bars with the cat clearly within reach of the keeper.
The cats weren't locked out back then.
I hope they do not close that exhibit because of this incident.
