Although I am not a big fan of BW's on the declaw point I will agree with  
him - and I will also say I have several big cats at Austin  Zoo that came to us 
declawed and are crippled - they are on Medicam daily  for pain relief and 
that is not without some drawbacks.  I have no idea if  a vet did the procedure 
or as our vet speculates it was an at-home project done  with bolt cutters.
